Did you really mean this fast Sark? I mean let’s put things in perspective. Last week, Washington ended the nation’s longest losing streak against Idaho. It was a blowout win for a program that desperately needed the taste of victory again. Now all of a sudden, that 0-12 season seems like a distant memory.

The scene at Husky Stadium in the aftermath of the 16-13 win over #3 USC harkens back to the early ‘90’s when this U-Dub program was one of the elite programs in America. While the 2009 Huskies are not to be confused with any of Don James’ legendary teams, the Sarkisian era is off to a magnificent start.

Before every college football season, a series of watch lists are released to let fans know who the award committees will be closely following for each of college football’s awards. With outstanding play, a player not on the preseason watch list can still go on to win the award. The preseason watch list is just a good indication of which players are considered the early favorites to win the award.

Listed below are all of the Pac-10 players who were included on the national lists. The only two awards not listed are the Heisman Trophy and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The Heisman Trophy does not release a preseason watch list, and the Unitas Award, which is handed out to the nation’s best senior college quarterback, had no Pac-10 players on their watch list.

Congratulations to the players named, and good luck taking home the hardware!

In January, a projection of the 2009 quarterback situation at USC did not seem necessary. After all, Mark Sanchez seemed like he was on his way back fresh off of a great Rose Bowl performance to end his first year as starter.

Although his decision to go pro initially irritated head coach Pete Carroll, it now seems all parties may come out just fine heading into the fall. After a stellar spring, Aaron Corp, a 6-4 redshirt sophomore from Orange Lutheran, has established himself as the starter.

Corp went an astounding 13 spring practices without throwing an interception capped off by a solid spring game. Before the spring, most pundits agreed that it was Corp’s mobility that made him such a tremendous talent. Some close to the program believe that Corp will be able to use his mobility out of the bootleg and play action even better than Sanchez did in last year’s offense.

The only question mark with Corp was how consistent he could be throwing the football. So far, Corp has silenced any critics he might have. His performance was especially impressive considering the stiff competition he faced throughout all of USC’s practices and scrimmages to date. In fact, the competition was so stiff that the battle for starting signal-caller could re-open in the fall thanks in large part to a rising star named Matt Barkley.
