Pac-10 Week 1 Notes and Observations: USC Trojans

By Dave Consolazio and Sam Saig, September 8, 2009 12:42 pm

USC Trojans 1-0 Overall (0-0 Conference)

This Week’s Score: USC 56 – San Jose State 3

Next Week’s Opponent: @Ohio State

Sam’s Take:

The Matt Barkley era got off to an ultra-smooth start, with the SC coaches putting the true freshman in a great position to succeed against San Jose State. He was not asked to do much, but his bootleg roll-outs were still very well executed and he showed no nerves in his debut.

The running game and offensive line were outstanding, and even without Kristofer O’Dowd the o-line looks better than any that I watched all weekend. Joe McKnight may have fumbled (which irritates a lot of SC fans), but he also looked like the highlight reel runner that he is. The other two offensive players that stood out for me were RB Marc Tyler and TE Anthony McCoy.

On defense, the unit looked fast and relentless as usual, albeit with mostly new players. I thought Chris Galippo played extremely well, along with DT Jurrell Casey and the entire secondary.

Now it’s on to the first of many tough road trips, and while the running game will still be a big part of the offense, the Buckeyes will try and force Barkley into much harder throws than the comfortable roll-outs that he had against San Jose State. I am very curious to see how Terrelle Pryor handles the speed and aggressiveness of this Trojan D, especially since the OSU o-line looked susceptible against Navy.

Dave’s Take:

With the game sitting at 3-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, I nodded knowingly. I did, after all, guess that the offensive fireworks wouldn’t be there this week, and USC would just play a nice, conservative game that didn’t result in a whole lot of scoring.

Oops.

I was right about the conservative gameplan; run the ball, easy safe passes. But the extreme talent discrepency over San Jose State made even the safest of play calling a wild success.

The team looked great all around, and there are just too many great performances to try and reel them all off. Even though it was only San Jose State, giving up only 121 total yards was impressive. Matt Barkley had a mistake free day and let his supporting cast take care of the rest; a recipe that should have plenty of success here in 2009.

  1. magnificent post, very informative. I wonder why the other specialists of this sector don’t notice this. You should continue your writing. I’m sure, you have a huge readers’ base already!

  2. Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point. You clearly know what youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just posting videos to your weblog when you could be giving us something enlightening to read?

  3. A lot of of what you articulate happens to be supprisingly accurate and that makes me wonder why I had not looked at this with this light before. This particular article really did turn the light on for me as far as this issue goes. Nonetheless at this time there is actually just one factor I am not necessarily too cozy with and whilst I attempt to reconcile that with the central idea of the position, let me observe exactly what the rest of your subscribers have to point out.Well done.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research on this. We got a book from our area library but I think I learned better from this post. I am very glad to see such magnificent information being shared freely out there..

  8. My coder is trying to persuade me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the costs. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using WordPress on numerous websites for about a year and am nervous about switching to another platform. I have heard fantastic things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can transfer all my wordpress posts into it? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated!

  9. Does your website have a contact page? I’m having a tough time locating it but, I’d like to send you an email. I’ve got some creative ideas for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great blog and I look forward to seeing it grow over time.

Hey would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with? I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S Sorry for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

  11. I would like to show some appreciation to this writer just for bailing me out of this particular dilemma. After browsing through the the web and coming across basics that were not beneficial, I believed my life was done. Being alive without the presence of solutions to the problems you’ve solved all through your entire website is a critical case, as well as those that might have badly damaged my entire career if I had not noticed the blog. Your personal ability and kindness in handling a lot of stuff was excellent. I am not sure what I would’ve done if I had not come across such a subject like this. I can now relish my future. Thanks for your time very much for your skilled and result oriented guide. I will not think twice to propose your site to any person who needs and wants assistance about this topic.

  12. Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

  13. Great work! That is the type of info that should be shared around the web. Disgrace on the seek for no longer positioning this publish higher! Come on over and visit my site . Thanks =)

  14. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod,lv bags and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

  15. Howdy! I just would like to give a huge thumbs up for the nice information you’ve gotten right here on this post. I will probably be coming back to your weblog for extra soon.

  16. Nice and very informative post. Your point of view is more or less the same as main. Thanks!

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!

One thing that I have noticed is that there are a whole lot of earthquakes these days. Big ones too. So what does that have to do with anything? Making money is not all that easy these days but fortunately, I found a trick. This technology was secretly “copied” from one of the top internet enterprises. There is nothing illegal or shady about it… it’s just kind of secret. The software needs very little babysitting so it’s basically set it up and forget it. Some people are tempted to exploit this software and use it for unethical web promotion but the owner is asking that everyone who is lucky enough to get it, please try to respect the laws of the internet. It really is as simple as downloading the software and then pushing a button. Basically what it does is bring a stream of free visitors to any website. Don’t even bother trying to figure out how this powerful software works. It’s a pretty amazing piece of software and it just simply… works. Check it out -> http://tinyurl.com/pbcsites
