By Sam Saig, December 1, 2009 5:24 pm

AllPac10.com was excited to accept an invitation to join CBSSports.com’s Blog Poll, which is run by Brian Cook who has a great Michigan blog over at www.mgoblog.com. You can read more about the premise by heading over to the Blog Poll via the link below, but it is essentially like a coaches or media poll except it is made up by top blogs across the country!

Rank Team Delta
1 Florida – Tim Tebow and the Gators had no trouble with the Seminoles on Senior Day. Now comes the toughest test of the season by far.
2 Texas – Texas was pushed to the limit by Texas A&M but Colt McCoy continues to impress.
3 Alabama – ‘Bama almost had its perfect season spoiled in the Iron Bowl. The Tide must be substantially better in the SEC Title Game.
4 TCU
5 Cincinnati
6 Boise State
7 Oregon – The Ducks have used the bye week to prepare for a Civil War for the ages.
8 Ohio State 2
9 Iowa 4
10 Georgia Tech – Surprising loss to Georgia.
11 Penn State 1
12 Oregon State – The Beavers will be underdogs this Thursday, but that’s just how Mike Riley likes it. 2

Pac-10 Pros Three Stars of the Week: Aaron Rodgers, Brook Lopez, DeSean Jackson

By Brian Consolazio, November 24, 2009 9:36 pm

#1 Star: Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
Alma Mater: Cal
Stats (11/22): 32/45 for 344 Yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 108.0 QB Rating

With the Green Bay Packers going into a critical game on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, they got exactly what they needed from their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to keep their playoff hopes alive. Rodgers threw a season high 45 times in the game and also completed a season high 32 of those passes to lead the Packers to a 30 – 24 victory.

Rodgers did most of his damage in the first half of the game, throwing for 274 yards and both of his touchdowns. The biggest play of the game came in the second quarter when the Packers were up 6 – 3 and Rodgers found Greg Jennings down the middle of the field for a 64-yard touchdown reception off of a nice play action fake to give the Packers a 13 – 3 lead. Later in the quarter, Rodgers hit Jordy Nelson for a seven-yard score to give the Packers a 20 – 3 lead that they would never lose.

Rodgers completed passes to seven different receivers, with all of them catching at least two balls. If Rodgers can continue to get good protection in the pocket like he did in this one, I think the Packers still have a shot at squeezing into one of the NFC Wild Card spots.

#2 Star: Brook Lopez, New Jersey Nets
Alma Mater: Stanford
Stats (11/17 – 11/21): 18.5 Pts, 10.7 Rebs, 2.0 Asts, 4.0 Blks, 41% FG Pct

For the New Jersey Nets, things can’t get much worse. They are 0-13 to start the season and have been plagued with injuries. One person they cant blame for their early season struggles is last year’s first round pick Brook Lopez.

In Lopez’s three games this week he recorded two double doubles with monster games against both the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers. Against the Knicks, Lopez scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with four blocks in only 31 minutes of play in the seven point loss. Lopez was even more dominant against the Pacers, and in his 46 minutes of play he recorded 26 points, a season high 16 rebounds, and a season high five blocks as well.

Brook Lopez has continued his early career success with five double-doubles this season. I’m starting to get the feeling that Lopez will get overlooked in the eyes of most people like the St Louis Rams’ Steven Jackson for the sole purpose that he is on a bad team, but I can almost guarantee you that this won’t be the last time you see him on this list.

#3 Star: DeSean Jackson, Philidelphia Eagles
Alma Mater: Cal
Stats (11/22): 8 Receptions for 107 Yards, 1 TD, 1 Rush for 10 Yards

What a shocker here, when the Philadelphia Eagles are struggling and need a win, they always seem to get a huge night from their star wide receiver DeSean Jackson. This time with a 5-4 record going into Sunday, Jackson showcased his top notch speed on Sunday Night Football in the Eagles 24 – 20 win over the Chicago Bears.

Jackson matched a season high eight receptions in the game, proving to be more reliable then just a big play receiver who makes two to three catches a game. Jackson did however show his big play abilities as well in this one, when he burned the entire Bears secondary on a play action fake, scoring a 48-yard touchdown reception to give the Eagles a 17 – 12 lead late in the third quarter. Down 20 to 17 in the fourth, on the Eagles eventual game winning drive, Jackson made three catches for 24 yards, all for first downs.

DeSean Jackson now has touchdowns in five different games on the year and in those games the Eagles are 4-1. I don’t know if Jackson has a problem with his consistency, but when he is on, the Eagles seem to win, and they will definitely need more big games like this to stay in playoff contention.

Honorable Mentions:

Oregon State’s Steven Jackson (24 Carries for 116 Yards, 1 TD)
Cal’s Tony Gonzalez (8 Receptions for 82 Yards, 1 TD)
Cal’s Jason Kidd (8.5 Pts, 7.5 Rebs, 9.5 Asts, 3.5 Stls, 32% FG Pct)
UCLA’s Russell Westbrook (18.5 Pts, 3.5 Rebs, 6.0 Asts, 1.5 Stls, 44% FG Pct)
Washington’s Dashon Goldson (8 Tackles)

Pac-10 Tiebreakers: What Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinal, Oregon State Beavers, and Arizona Wildcats Need to Win the Pac-10

Worried about tiebreakers? Wondering what you should be rooting for in the next few weeks? I’ve done my best to spell out every possible outcome; including plenty of extremely complicated ones involving a highly improbable Washington State upset over Oregon State.

Short Answer:

Oregon and Arizona both control their own destiny, and if they win out, they are in.

Oregon State only needs a single Arizona loss to get in if they beat Oregon.

Stanford needs a perfect storm, but it isn’t impossible. They need a win over Cal, Arizona to beat Oregon, Oregon to beat Oregon State, and Arizona to lose a game (to ASU or USC).

The Stanford Cardinal end the USC Trojans reign; and why the Pac-10 is the best conference in college football

By Dave Consolazio, November 17, 2009 4:49 am

USC’S REIGN AT THE TOP IS OVER – FOR NOW

Ding Dong’ the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Witch is dead!

For some reason, this song was running through my head as I watched Stanford pummel USC.

For Trojans fans, it has been a fantastic ride for the last seven years. So fantastic, in fact, that Trojan fans are completely guilty of taking it for granted. Every single one of them (myself, included).

Virtually every hiccup along the way has cost USC a trip to the National Championship, which in turn turned the Rose Bowl into a consolation prize of sorts. USC fans are always disappointed to “only” win the Pac-10 and “only” go to the Rose Bowl.

And that’s one of the reasons why fans around the conference have hated the USC Trojans and their fans for the better part of a decade now, and as Stanford drove the final nail into the coffin that Washington had opened and Oregon had closed, there is plenty of reason for the rest of the conference to celebrate.

A friend of mine asked me, “Dave, you know your Pac-10; Is USC done for? I mean, I know they are this season, but are they done for good?”

I’m surprised at how many people are living in the moment so badly that they are actually asking this question. NO, USC isn’t done for good. They still have one of the best coaches in the country and a never-ending stable of 4 and 5-star talent. They will be a serious contender for the Pac-10 title next year, as well as the years to come.

The beauty, though, is that they won’t be the only serious contender. 2009 will not mark the beginning of the end of USC as a football power; but it will mark the end of their stranglehold over the rest of the conference.

AllPac10’s CBSSports.com BlogPoll: Top 25 Poll for Week 12

You can read more about the premise by heading over to the Blog Poll via the link below, but it is essentially like a coaches or media poll except it is made up by top blogs across the country!

Rank Team Delta
1 Florida
2 Texas
3 Alabama
4 TCU – The Horned Frogs continue to earn my respect, and I’m starting to believe they could beat any one of the so-called “Big Three”.
5 Cincinnati – Quality win against West Virginia.
6 Boise State
7 Oregon – The loss to Stanford looks okay to me. Now the Ducks will have a chance to put a firm grasp on the Pac-10 title race if they can get by UA in Tucson. 2
8 Georgia Tech
9 Stanford – Toby Gerhart better be in New York for the Heisman Ceremony. This Cardinal team is playing the best football of any team in the Pac-10 right now. 14
10 Pittsburgh – I’ve always liked Dave Wannstedt and I am beginning to really believe in this Pitt team. 2
11 LSU – Unimpressive win over Louisiana Tech 4
12 Ohio State – Buckeyes clinched a Rose Bowl birth… but can OSU finally beat someone from another conference? 2
13 Penn State 3
14 Iowa 1
15 Oregon State – The Beavers are quietly in contention to win the Pac-10… just the way Mike Riley likes it. 7
16 Virginia Tech 3
17 Wisconsin 3
18 Southern Cal – Unfamiliar times in Troy. 8
19 Miami (Florida) – The “U” isn’t quite back yet. 8
20 Houston 1
21 Utah – Everyone expected a dogfight between TCU and Utah, but the Frogs weren’t having it. 4
22 Clemson 2
23 Brigham Young
24 California – The Bears deserve to be back in the rankings (for now) after a very good win over Arizona
25 Arizona – The ‘Cats Rose Bowl hopes took a hit, but they have a chance to quickly redeem themselves against Oregon this week. 10
Last week’s ballot
Dropped Out: Oklahoma State (#18), Auburn (#25).

AllPac10’s CBSSports.com BlogPoll: Top 25 Poll for Week 11

You can read more about the premise by heading over to the Blog Poll via the link below, but it is essentially like a coaches or media poll except it is made up by top blogs across the country!

Rank Team Delta
1 Florida
2 Texas
3 Alabama – Hard fought win over a physical LSU team.
4 TCU – The Horned Frogs may not play a tough schedule, but this is a very good football team that could play with anybody right now. 3
5 Cincinnati 1
6 Boise State – The nightmarish Oregon/Boise State ranking argument appears to have worked itself out. 2
7 LSU – A very game effort against ‘Bama. 2
8 Georgia Tech 3
9 Oregon – Disappointing loss for a team that was a fringe national title contender. Now, the path to the Rose Bowl will not be nearly as easy as many thought it would. 5
10 Southern Cal – Don’t look now, but those same old Trojans are back in the Pac-10 title picture even after a lackluster win over ASU. 2
11 Miami (Florida) 3
12 Pittsburgh – The more I look at Cincinnati and Pitt, the less I can tell them apart. Should be fun when the Bearcats and Panthers meet. 6
13 Iowa – When you play with fire, you get burned. 8
14 Ohio State 1
15 Arizona – ‘Cats didn’t prove much by dismantling Wazzu, but the team still sits atop the Pac-10 with Oregon. 2
16 Penn State 6
17 Utah 2
18 Oklahoma State 1
19 Virginia Tech 3
20 Wisconsin 4
21 Houston 2
22 Oregon State – Beavers are starting to make their annual late season push, and QB Sean Canfield is playing at an all-conference level.
23 Stanford – Tremendous win for Jim Harbaugh’s program. Can they slay another Pac-10 giant this week?
24 Clemson
25 Auburn

Dropped Out: Notre Dame (#16), Oklahoma (#20), California (#21), Brigham Young (#25).
